“There is nobody you need to get permission from to do what you want to do. Make the books you most want to make, the books you think should exist, the ones that it has driven you crazy that nobody is making.”

We’re passionate about the tactile, visual, and creative possibilities of physical comics. There’s something uniquely special about the way colors in older comics pop compared to modern or digital reproductions. We also love the playful creativity that can come from physical additions—like tip-ins, foldouts, or other embellishments—and we take joy in seeing the collection of printed material we’ve created over time.
However, we found it challenging to predict how many copies of each zine our audience would want. To keep this project fun and sustainable for both us (Alex and Colin) and our contributors, we experimented with different printers and formats to manage costs. Eventually, we realized that moving to print-on-demand allows us to maintain the same high quality while removing the financial guesswork of print runs. It also means fans can get the issues they want, when they want them—no worrying about a title selling out.

As much as we love printed comics, we recognize that shipping costs—especially for international readers—can be a significant barrier. We also know that many readers and comics enthusiasts prefer the convenience of digital reading for ease of storage and accessibility. Offering PDFs allows us to make the zine available to everyone, no matter where they are, while keeping costs reasonable.
-
Simply put, this is a passion project. Neither Alex nor Colin makes any personal profit from the zine; all funds go directly back into producing the next issue—whether that’s covering web hosting, digital subscriptions, or printing expenses for smaller experimental projects.
For print-on-demand, we’ve found Mixam to be the best combination of quality and affordability, and their platform allows us to keep our material available without large upfront costs. For PDFs, selling directly through our own site is the most cost-effective and streamlined way to distribute them without adding extra fees or complexity for readers.
We understand that having two separate storefronts might be a minor inconvenience, but it’s what allows us to keep offering the zine in both high-quality print and affordable digital formats—so readers can choose whichever works best for them.
